The Core Challenge

Lay the foundation for Beyond The Legacy, a story-driven website highlighting the lives, careers and continued legacies of former pro athletes.

The platform will feature intimate portraits of the transitions in-and-out of professional sports and the challenges faced by former athletes and those closest to them. 

Similar in posture to content produced by Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel and The Players Tribune, the Beyond the Legacy site features honest stories about the personal struggles, triumphs and new roads faced by athletes after leaving the spotlight due to injury, retirement or major life transitions.

dp Creative Studio crafted an approachable brand voice, style and tone that a wider audience could appreciate and find a connection to no matter their interest-level in sports. We created a custom logo stamp, article-driven website, banner campaign, brand guidelines, print materials and set strategy for social media engagement and marketing efforts.

The Results

Our Process

After initial talks, we determined this to be a one-of-a-kind website utilizing interview-based content as the core driver. Former high-profile athletes and their familes were entrusting the platform to feature never before heard stories about their life successes, crushing defeats and how these experiences shaped their legacies.

Our strategy for the website experience was to highlight imagery, blend the navigation into it and limit the overall aethetic to a minimal feel. 

We had limited access to content and were launching with a small subset of stories that had to make an emotional impact quickly, so we developed a brand guideline for the client to keep image and style formats consistent moving forward on their own.

A signature "L" was hand sketched and produced alongside the full logotype. We aimed to reflect the subtle feeling of sports emblems without being overt. Taking cues from the typefaces of legacy sports organizations, we crafted a signature look and feel.
